Carnegie Council to Partner with Bruce Weinstein, The Ethics Guy® for a Global Ethics Day Webinar on October 16

Oct 4, 2019

Carnegie Council will partner with Bruce Weinstein, The Ethics Guy®, for a Global Ethics Day webinar on business ethics on October 16, entitled "How Ethical Leadership is the Key to Sustained Success in Business." This will complement panels, film festivals, and talks with partner organizations ACCA and CFA Institute taking place around the world, including a breakfast event at the European Parliament in Brussels.

The 45-minute webinar, which will be the centerpiece of Carnegie Council's celebration of the sixth Global Ethics Day, will take place at 11 a.m. ET on October 16. It will feature a discussion with three prominent leaders who will explain why businesses cannot afford to hire a single dishonest employee. True, inspiring stories will show a direct relationship between honest, accountable leadership and quantifiable financial benefits to businesses and the people they serve.

"Ethics is always a timely topic," Weinstein said from his New York office, "but there has never been a more urgent need for reflection on ethical leadership in business than now." Three distinguished business leaders will reveal how honesty, accountability and other crucial qualities of high-character leaders are the foundation for sustained success in business.

"The Carnegie Council is widely recognized as a global leader in ethics," he added, "and it is a tremendous honor to partner with the Council on this webinar."

Weinstein is a business ethics speaker who writes about ethical leadership for Forbes online and is the author of the books Ethical Intelligence, The Good Ones: Ten Crucial Qualities of High-Character Employees, and for tweens and teens, Is It Still Cheating If I Don’t Get Caught?

ACCA and CFA Institute, who partnered with Carnegie Council for the "Ethics in Business" interview series, will kick off their Global Ethics Day festivities in Europe with a breakfast event at the European Parliament in Brussels, hosted by Sirpa Pietikäinen, MEP. This breakfast will focus on how to build trust in the financial services industry and will feature introductory speeches by Dr. Tony Tan, CFA, senior head of ethics education and professional standards at CFA Institute and Helen Brand, OBE, chief executive at ACCA.

A panel discussion will then take place with Pietikäinen, Tan, Brand, and Jella Benner-Heinacher, vice president of BETTER FINANCE. The event will conclude with a closing speech by Josina Kamerling, head of regulatory outreach in EMEA at CFA Institute, and the presentation of the Ethics & Trust in Finance prize.

"We’re delighted to be joining forces again with the Carnegie Council and CFA Institute on the 16 October to shine a strong spotlight on ethics and professionalism," says Brand. "Global Ethics Day is a chance for us all to think very carefully about what ethical behavior means in the digital age. For ACCA, good ethics equals good business, and that then makes for a better society."

"Global Ethics Day is an impactful way to highlight the importance of ethical behavior," says Tan. "And it is a privilege to work again with ACCA and Carnegie Council to speak with one voice on this topic. At CFA Institute, improving ethical conduct requires both good awareness of what is unethical and the skills to "speak- up" when one sees unethical practices, which is something we are working on with the industry."

In addition, ACCA and CFA Institute will hold a number of other events around the world on October 16, including:

"These events culminate a year-long series of conversations prompted by increased awareness of the social impacts of business," says Joel Rosenthal, Carnegie Council president. "In many ways, our efforts anticipate the recent statement by the Business Roundtable on the purpose of the corporation. We are delighted to see the dialogue it is generating."

Launched by Carnegie Council in 2014, Global Ethics Day is an opportunity for institutions to hold events on or around this day to explore the essential role of ethics, and how we can strive to make the world, quite simply, better.
