Bio
Brenda Gayle Plummer teaches jointly in the departments of History and Afro-American Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her major research interests are the history of U.S. foreign relations, race in international affairs, African American history, and Caribbean history.
In addition to two books on Haiti, Plummer is the author of Rising Wind: Black Americans and U. S. Foreign Affairs, 1935-1960; and In Search of Power: African Americans in the Era of Decolonization, 1956-1974. She edited the anthology Window on Freedom: Race, Civil Rights, and Foreign Affairs, 1945-1988.
Plummer served on the Historical Advisory Committee of the U. S. Department of State, which consults with the State Department on historical declassification issues, from 2001 to 2005.
