Bio
Gheewhan Kim is consul general for the Republic of Korea in New York.
Kim joined South Korea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1983, and served at embassies in Muscat, Oman and Geneva, Switzerland. He also worked as counselor at the embassies in the UK and Russia. In addition, Kim served as director for supporting North Korean refugees at the Ministry of National Unification and was awarded a Public Service Merit Medal in 2008. He completed military service as lieutenant at the judge advocate general’s office and at the Fleet Command of the Korean Navy.
Kim also served as director-general for multilateral trade in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, deputy director-general of the FTA Policy Bureau, and in 2011, was named minister for economic affairs at the Korean Embassy in Washington, DC.
