Ambassador Herman Schaper is the former permanent representative of the Netherlands to the UN.
Previously, he was the permanent representative of the Netherlands on the North Atlantic Council from 2005-2009. Schaper was also deputy director general for political affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague from 2001-2005.
His previous positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and abroad include director of the European Department, director of the Security Policy Department, deputy permanent representative to the UN, and deputy permanent representative to NATO.
From 1981-1982, Schaper represented the Democrats '66 party in the Dutch Parliament.
He had previously worked as a researcher at the Netherlands Society for International Affairs.
