Bio

Thomas E. Patterson is Bradlee Professor of Government and the Press at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government.

Previously, Patterson taught for over two decades at Syracuse University's Maxwell School of Citizenship. He joined the Harvard faculty in 1996.

Patterson's books include The Vanishing Voter; Out of Order, which received the American Political Science Association’s Graber Award as the best book of the decade in political communication; The Unseeing Eye, which was named by the American Association for Public Opinion Research as one of the 50 most influential books on public opinion in the past half century; and Informing the News: The Need for Knowledge-Based Journalism. His articles have appeared in Political Communication, the Journal of Communication, and other publications.
